Prettejohn bought the nursery formerly conducted by W. Stanford at Gertrude Street, Lockleys for about 4,000 pounds. Owing to ill health in 1956, Gordon Prettejohn had to stop working, and Glen Churchett, having been employed for some years carried on. Lee G. Prettejohn son of Gordon, commenced working in the business in 1956 and in 1960 a partnership between Lee Prettejohn and Glen Churchett was formed and conducted the business. About 1970-1972 Lee and Geoffrey joined in partnership, and operated the business as PRETTEJOHN'S NURSERY at 11 Gertrude St. Brooklyn Park. This nursery has traded in bedding plants and seedlings since established in 1946. All propagation done in those days was in open ground or in one or two small glass houses; however as time has gone by, large glass house areas have been constructed as well as shade cloth areas. The area held covers about one acre. In addition to the nursery, a stall at the central market was purchased in 1946 from Mr. Stanford and business has been conducted there ever since. Originally the business traded as G.W. PRETTEJOHN, but later became simply PRETTEJOHN'S NURSERY currently handling all bedding type plants with special emphasis on Petunias, Flowers, Tomatoes and all vegetable plants.
