Nathaniel Prettejohn
1841 Census: Lower Yanston Farm (sometimes referred to as Granston Farm in census). This is the farm which Nicholas Prettejohn b. 22 June 1795 Loddiswell (married Ann Goddard) farmed from 1871. Prior to that he worked for HM Forests and Woods (as a Planter of Forests) in Selborne, which is why his children were born there. His single son Albert Pearce Prettejohn farmed it after him ( he was there with his father 1871) from 1881 to 1901 at least. When Albert died 1 April 1917, his nephew Harold Prettejohn a Grocer (nephew) is listed on the Probate.
Albert had an interesting work life. In 1851 he was with a Grocer/General Dealer as an Apprentice and in 1861 a Linen Draper Assistant living/working in an enormous establishment covering 4 houses in the High Street, Southwark.
Nathaniel married Anne Goddard, daughter of William Goddard and Sophia, on 15 Feb 1819 in East Worldham. (Anne Goddard was born in 1795 in Binstead, Hants, christened on 22 Apr 1795 in Bentley, Hampshire, died on 11 Dec 1864 in Yanston, Loddiswell, Devon and was buried in Binstead, Hampshire.) Nathaniel next married Sarah Unknown. |
