1861 Census:
Henry (aged 18) was working as a general farm servant for the Paige family at a farm house in Widdicombe Barton, Stokenham.
Henry married in 1881, but the son's birth date is 1874. They married immediately prior to the 1881 Census. This action was either to legitimise the birth of the son or the son was from a previous marriage of Susan. In the 1881 Census she was described as a Shopkeeper/Grocer. He was a fisherman. It may be that Harry took the Prettejohn name.
They were living with a Robert Seymour (scholar, 12) and Mary A. Shepherd, a visitor.
1891 Census:
Henry was described as a baker and Susan as a grocer and the son Harry as a baker's employee.
Henry married Susan Login (Loggin) 1881, March Q in Kingbridge. (Susan Login (Loggin) was born in 1831 in Charlton, Devon.)
Henry next married Betsy Cole or Eliza Jane Hannaford 1865, September Q. in Kingsbridge.
