Notes:

Rose Elizabeth Paget was born in 1860. She was a daughter of Sir George Edward Paget, Regius Professor of Physic at the University of Cambridge between 1872 and 1892, and Clara Paget (née Fardell) a clergyman's daughter from the Isle of Ely. Rose Paget met J.J. Thomson as a student at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge and they were married in 1890. They had two children, George Paget Thomson and Joan Paget Thomson. Lady Thomson died in 1951.

Rose was a physicist. She attended classes at Newnham College and lectures at the Cavendish Laboratory. She began research at the Cavendish in autumn 1888 on the stationary vibrations produced in soap films by audible sound waves, a topic suggested by the director (her husband), J.J. Thomson. The research does not seem to have been published by either Paget or Thomson. On 2 January 1890, Rose Paget married J.J. Thomson. She did not continue her work in physics after her marriage. The couple had a son, George, born in 1892, and a daughter, Joan, born in March 1903. J.J. Thomson was credited with the 1897 discovery of the electron. George P. Thomson later became an eminent physicist.
