Notes:

Gilling Castle was sold to Mr William Slingsby Hunter in 1904. He made considerable modifications to the castle, making it a more comfortable place in which to live. In 1929 his son Mr Kenneth S. Hunter sold the estate to a syndicate.

Prior to 1904, the Hall at Over Dinsdale, in Yorkshire, an old mansion, was occupied by William Slingsby Hunter, Esq.

Yorkshire Hussars.; educated at Eton; b. 89. Mr. Hunter, who was formerly a Major Northumberland Art. Militia, is a J.P. and D.L. for the N. William Hunter was born at Newtown in Northumberland and died during the December quarter of 1883 at Kensington, London in Middlesex.

Eliza Hannah Hunter, the daughter of Somers (Summers) Hunter (1792-22 December 1839) and Hannah Ranson (1792-), who were married at Houghton Le Spring, Durham on 14 December 1812, was born at Inverness in Scotland on 29 March 1826 and was baptised there on 28 April of that year. Eliza died at Sevenoaks in Kent during the June quarter of 1909.

William Hunter and Eliza Hannah Hunter were married at Inverness in Scotland on 27 July 1847.
